SLU Prof's Book Examines Eco-Awareness Spread Through Nicaraguan Song & Poetry
Known as the Republic of Poets, Nicaragua has a rich biodiversity that is threatened by destructive human activity. A new book of essays by St. Lawrence University Lewis Professor of Spanish Steven White examines how poetry and song have raised ecological awareness in Nicaragua, and how this movement could become a model of more ethical behavior throughout the world.

Korean Modern Dance Company To Perform At St. Lawrence
Lee K. Dance, a professional contemporary dance company, will perform at St. Lawrence University on Saturday, February 11, at 8 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre, Griffiths Arts Center. The performance is open to the public, free of charge.

Laura Ellis Appointed Vice President For University Advancement At St. Lawrence
St. Lawrence University has appointed Laura Ellis as vice president for University advancement, with responsibility for development, alumni relations and advancement services; she will begin her duties on March 12. Currently, Ellis is associate vice president for development and alumni relations at Pace University, which has campuses in Manhattan, Pleasantville and White Plains, New York.

Two SLU Students Win Intercultural Leadership Awards For Study In Denmark
Two St. Lawrence students who studied in Denmark during the fall 2011 semester received the Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS) Intercultural Leadership Award. Dylan Cutler '12 and Johanna Kelley '13 both earned the recognition by demonstrating how they became immersed in Danish culture and were challenged by their experiences.

Heather Cutler '12 Continues Astronomy Research In Puerto Rico
Heather Cutler '12, Priest Associate Professor of Physics Aileen O'Donoghue and Physics Lab Coordinator Jeff Miller attended the 5th ALFALFA Undergraduate Team Workshop at the Arecibo Radio Observatory in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, held January 15-18. The National Science Foundation-funded workshop centers around research examining cool hydrogen in distant galaxies.

Austrian Journal Publishes Article By Prof. Kittler
The most recent issue of Medien & Zeit, a communication history journal based in Vienna, includes an article by Assistant Professor of English/Performance and Communication Arts Juraj Kittler. "Learning from Braudel: A Quest for a Comprehensive History of the Public Sphere," appears in Volume 26, Number 4 of the journal, which alternates publication in German and English. This volume is in English and is dedicated to new theoretical approaches to communication history research in Europe.

Journal Co-Edited By Prof McCarthy Published Online
The first issue of ASIANetwork Exchange: a Journal of Asian Studies in the Liberal Arts with Professor of Philosophy Erin McCarthy as co-editor has just been published online. McCarthy and co-editor Lisa Trivedi, associate professor of history at Hamilton College, have made significant changes to the flagship publication of ASIANetwork, a consortium of 165 liberal arts colleges with Asian Studies programs. Readers may download individual articles through the journal's website.
